CONGRATULATIONS!

to Chris Crowe, whose book MISSISSIPPI TRIAL, 1955...
--was named a Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young Readers by the National Council for the Social Studies, and
--won an International Reading Association 2003 Children's Book Award in Young Adult Fiction.

to Sherry Meidell, who had a watercolor "Powered by Steam" accepted into the Western Federation Watercolor Show. A reception and award ceremony will be held May 8th at the Marjorie Varrick Museum in Las Vegas at UNLV. The show runs May 1st through June 16th.

to Kimberley Heuston, whose book THE SHAKERESS was named one of the New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Age.

APPEARANCES AND EVENTS


March 6--Rick Walton will be doing his school presentation on what it's like to be a writer, at Thanksgiving Point in the dinosaur museum, upstairs in the Amber room, from 5-6 pm. Admission is free, the public is invited.

March 8-11--Gloria Skurzynski will be a guest at a children's literature conference at Western Missouri State University.

March 13--Kim Williams-Justesen will be presenting at Eisenhower Jr. High.

March 14--Ron Woods will be speaking to writing classes at the High School for Leadership and Public Service, once block from "Ground Zero" in Manhattan.

March 15--Gloria Skurzynski will be on a panel at the Ides of March Gathering at the Log Cabin Literary Center in Boise at 2 p.m.

March 15--Rick Walton will be visiting Grandview Elementary in Provo.

March 21-22--UVSC Children's Literature Conference.

March 17-April 7--Kim Williams-Justesen will be teaching a four-week workshop on writing for children through Life Long Learning at the U of U. For information call 801-587-5433 or go to www.lifelong.utah.edu. 

March 27--Gloria Skurzynski and Alane Ferguson will be featured speakers at the National Science Teachers Association annual conference in Philadelphia.

March 29--Sherry Meidell will be one of the artists involved with the Bountiful Davis Art Center's "Appetizing Art". Some of her art will be displayed, and artists will work on paintings that will be auctioned off at the end of the day to help raise funds for the art center.

March 31--Ron Woods will be speaking at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Boise.

April 6-12, Gloria Skurzynski will be visiting Montana schools.

April 8--Rick Walton will be speaking to the Davis School District Librarians at Knowlton Elementary in Farmington, from 4-6 

April 14-15--Rick Walton will be visiting schools in Winnemucca, Nevada.

May 1-2--Rick Walton will be visiting Bunderson Elementary in Brigham City.

May 4-8, 2003--International Reading Association, Orlando, Florida.

May 23-25, 2003--Conduit 13: Salt Lake's Science Fiction Weekend.

May 30-June 1, 2003--Book Expo America, Los Angeles.

June 19-25, 2003--American Library Association annual conference, Toronto, Canada.

July 7-11, 2003--BYU Writing for Young Readers Workshop.

July 18-19, 2003--BYU Books for Young Readers Symposium--Guests include Bethanne Anderson, Franny Billingsley, Susan Fletcher, Russell Freedman, David Small, Laurence Yep.
