APPEARANCES AND EVENTS
July--The Daily Herald will feature the 18-year journey to publication of Ron Woods' THE HERO.
July 29-Aug 2--THE HERO will be the featured book on the Teen Book Club of the internet Chapter-a-Day group, with a segment going out each day for five days, with commentary from a teen reader.
August 1--Ron Woods will be interviewed on KBSU, the NPR radio station at Boise State University. (THE HERO is set 22 miles north of Boise.)
August 2--Ron Woods will be speaking to the Idaho Youth Librarians summer institute at Boise State.
August 9--Sherry Meidell will be reading from one of her illustrated books and doing an art demo for the kids at the Family Information and Resource Center, 50 S. 400 E., Logan, at 11:00 am.
August 10--The Dream Maker's Writer's Conference. Our own Alane Ferguson is organizing a great writer's conference this summer in Elizabeth, Colorado. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn the craft of writing for children and to make connections, but it's also all for a good cause. Every penny raised by the conference will go to help keep the Elizabeth High School Marching Band alive and making music.
The Dream Makers Writer's Conference will be held Saturday, August 10th. Faculty includes:
-Nancy Mercado, editor at Penguin Putnam
-Jennifer Wingertzahn, editor at Random House
-Mark McVeigh, editor at HarperCollins
-agent George Nicholson of Sterling Lord Literistic
-authors Claudia Mills, Gloria Skurzynski, Carol Lynch Williams, and Alane Ferguson
-author/illustrator Gary Raham
Each participant will be able to select three 90 minute classes, and CD's will be available for all classes. There will be a writing contest that can be entered for a separate fee of $25.00, with the categories of Best Picture Book, Best Middle Grade, and Best Young Adult. (The lunch will be part of the $65.00 fee.) Winners will be announced at the luncheon, and each winner will receive a consultation with an editor or agent!
Registration will begin on June 10th. The fee will increase to $75.00 August 1st, and class sizes will be limited.

August 13--Rick Walton will be reading his books during storytime at the Orem Library, from 10:30-11:00 am.
August 15--Rick Walton will be signing at the LDS Booksellers Association Convention, 10:30-11:30 am.
August 23--Ron Woods will be signing at the BYU Bookstore during Education Week.
August 29-31--Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. Storytellers include Willy Claflin, Donald Davis, Carmen Deedy, Rex Ellis, Beth Horner, Jay O'Callahan, Laura Pershin, Storycrafters, and Betty Ann Wylie. Go to www.timpfest.org for more information.
August 31--Kimberley Heuston will be signing THE SHAKERESS at the Fort Union Barnes and Noble from 1-2:30 pm.
September 13-15--The Great Salt Lake Book Festival 2002. Events on the 13th (Friday) will be at Salt Lake Community College's South State Street Campus in the morning and the West Jordan Campus in the afternoon. Events on September 14th and 15th will be held at Westminster College, 1840 South 1300 East.
On Friday, speakers will include Ken Baker, Mary Bangerter, Tess Boone, Laurel Brady, Ann Cannon, Chris Crowe, Glenda Cundiff, Rodayne Esmay, John Funk, Christine Gonzales, Rachel Haab, Sherri Haab, Rick Kirschner, Diane Krehbiel, Nancy Livingston, Sandi Martin, Sister Maryam, Anne Nabaum, Huy Ngo, Michelle Niska, Loa Niumeitoia, Laura Numeroff, Sonia Parker, Melissa Payne, Patty Steed, Laura Torres, Olene Walker, Sue Walker, Rick Walton, Thelma Weiss, Carol Williams, Drew Williams, Randall Wright.
